BADARPUR, August 1: Civic polls were peaceful in Badarpur and Karimganj. About 11,337 voters in Badarpur cast votes to elect four representatives contesting the four wards in the Badarpur Civic Board. Similarly, 44,385 voters cast their votes in Karimganj civic areas for candidates contesting in the 27 wards. The voter turnout here was 70 per cent. Sources said the people braved the inclement weather and went to the polling booths to cast votes for their favourable candidates. Although some disturbances were reportedly created by Congress supporters, the situation was quickly brought under control by the police. Both Karimganj and Badarpur were under tight security for the peaceful conduct of the election. Karimganj DC Dr M Angamuthu personally inspected the entire situation here to thwart any incident of violence. THE SENTINEL
