SILCHAR, Aug 12: The ONGC Workers’ Union strongly condemned the incident of threat to ONGC Contractual Workers’ Union of Srikona Cachar Forward Base general secretary Mitali Gupta by unidentified miscreants. Sources said Gupta received the threat over telephone.
The union has been fighting for regularization of services of more than 400 contractual workers engaged in the forward base.
Gupta said the union has recently sought the intervention of the Supreme Court and also filed an FIR with Silchar police regarding the matter.
Sources further said repeated pleas of the forward base workers of ONGC for regularization of their jobs fell to the deaf ears of the higher authorities and that prompted the workers to file a case in the Supreme Court. The apex court reportedly gave its verdict in favour of the workers’ union.
The forward base authorities, however, remained silent. They were later reportedly served with another notice by the apex court. THE SENTINEL
