SILCHAR, Aug 10: State Minister for Irrigation, Fisheries and Soil Conservation Nur Jamal Sarkar visited the World Bank-funded three hectare fishery scheme at Silkuri in Cachar district yesterday. Rs 4.10 lakh was allotted for the scheme which is nearing completion. Sarkar was accompanied by secretary to the Government of Assam Fisheries Department PK Borthakur and Cachar Deputy Commissioner Gautom Ganguly.
A press release stated that earlier, the minister reviewed the implementation of various fishery scheme of Cachar district at a meeting held in Silchar. The minister was informed in the meeting by officials about the yearly requirement of fish in Cachar which is 29,600 metric tonnes. They said the fish production in the district is 20,000 metric tonnes. Sarkar urged the officials to increase fish production by implementing various schemes.
On August 8, the Minister also visited the irrigation schemes at Amjurghat, Binnakandi and Jhapirbond. The Minister was accompanied by Irrigation OSD Enamul Haque and by Assam Irrigation Chief Engineer CK Sinha. THE SENTINEL
