Chennai (Madras) is the fourth most populous metropolitan area and the fifth most populous city in India. Chennai has large number of Educational Institutions. Chennai has large number of Engineering Colleges among all other cities in India.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), the College of Engineering, Guindy,founded in 1794, Madras Institute of Technology, founded in 1949 and SRM University are the well known centres for engineering education in the city .Most colleges that offer engineering programs are affiliated to Anna University. Madras Medical College (MMC), Stanley Medical College (SMC), Kilpauk Medical College and Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC) are the notable medical colleges in Chennai.

Bengali Associations and Culbs organise Durga Puja in Chennai City. Puja starts with traditional fervour. The Bengal Association in the city will celebrate Durga Puja for six days on its premises at Giri Road, T. Nagar. These bengalis organisations involved in various social service activities such as health camps and blood donation camps. Durga Puja is held in different parts of Chennai and adjoining areas. The Bengali association in T Nagar is the oldest Durga Puja festival organised by the Bengali settlers.
