BJP demands repair of roads before Durga Puja

SILCHAR, Sept 19: Reacting to the State government’s failure in repairing roads and other important connectors lying dilapidated in the absence of any renovation works for the last few years, the Cachar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the Deputy Commissioner, Municipality and the State government to repair the important thoroughfares of Cachar district before the ensuing Durga Puja celebrations.

At a press meet today, general secretary of the Cachar unit of BJP, Shashanka Sekhar Dhar, said the roads and bridges are in a deplorable condition. This has created difficulties for people in the sub-urban and rural areas of Cachar in travelling to Silchar, the district headquarters. Besides, the BJP has also alleged that due to large scale passivity of the last municipal body of Silchar and the inaction of urban development ministry, the important roads in the district have been reduced to their skeletal forms.

Under the circumstance, the drainage system of Silchar has completely broken down. Consequently, during rainy season, the citizens face a difficult time due to deposition of rain waters on the road ways.

In a bid to improve the prevailing situation in the district, the party has appealed to the local authorities and the State government to renovate roads and important thoroughfares of the district before the ensuing Durga Puja festival for the convenience of citizens.

It is to be mentioned that the party has also urged the authorities concerned to provide constant power supply in the hours of celebration. THE SENTINEL
