Bithika: Complete roads before festivals
SILCHAR, Sept 1: Silchar MLA Bithika Dev asked various branches of the PWD to complete road construction works of the town before the ensuing Idd and Durga Puja. The road condition of the town was one of the main causes for the defeat of her husband Santosh Mohan Dev in the last Lok Sabha elections.
Dev Said the PWD was responsible for the defeat of SM Dev. She said SM Dev, during his tenure as Union minister, was instrumental in bringing various projects for the overall development of roads in the district. But the engineers of PWD did not properly supervise the works done by contractors. As a result, roads started to show cracks within a few months. But general people considered it as a failure of the public representatives. PWD (Road) Executive Engineer Imran Hussain said that within 10 days the condition of a number of roads would be much improved. THE SENTINEL
Troops seize smuggled logs
SILCHAR, Sep 1: Troops of the 11 Field Regiment (Red Shield Division) seized 124 wooden logs in the Borobakra area under Jiribum Police station of Manipur recently. One Jalaluddin (40) from Jatrapur village under Jiribum PS has been arrested in this connection.
The jawans later handed over the person to Jiribum Police. Sources said that the market value of the smuggled logs was around Rs 5 lakh. The logs were handed over to the Forest Beat officer, Borobakra, Manipur, immediately after the seizure. THE SENTINEL
