Is has an International Airport and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is responsible for maintenance of the city. About Guwahati
The most striking feature of Guwahati is the Brahmaputra, whose is so wide that the far shore is often invisible. Guwahati were being an important place as a capital of various historical kingdoms like Pragjyotishpurnagara. Guwahati was also important for the Mugual administrative and military power for Assam and for the Ahom Viceroy of Ahom Kingdom acted as a seat of Borphukan. Rectangle Lake called Dighalipukhuri is connected to Brahmaputra was perhaps a dug for navel reasons by the Ahoms.

The word Guwahati came with the combination of two Assamese words guwa (betal nut) and hat (market place). The city is surrounded by hills from the top, which looks like a cave, and the river Brahmaputra passes gives it perfect picture of an elephant. Many people believe the name was Guhahati which later change by the British Dynasty as Gauhati and later again it then changed to Guwahati.
