Barak Valley Express and Cachar Express services resume in NC Hills

SILCHAR, Oct 20: After a period of 16 long months, the North Frontier (NF) Railway resumed operation of the Barak Valley Express and Cachar Express, regular trains running between Silchar and Lumding, from today. Both the express trains were cancelled following regular attacks by Dimasa militants.

However, after the surrender of the Black Widow and responding to public demand, the NF Railway started special trains in the hill section during daytime, sources said, and added that the Dimasa militant outfit used the trains as a target to unleash terror in North Cachar Hills district.

NF Railway PRO Nripendra Bhattacharjee said the railway authorities decided to resume the two express trains from Tuesday after the assurance of security given by the State Government.

Barak Valley Express today started its journey from Silchar this morning while the Cachar Express left Silchar railway station this evening. THE SENTINEL
