Renovation of MG line within 2 months: DRM

SILCHAR, Oct 25: Work for the much-awaited Lumding- Silchar broad gauge conversion will resume soon as normalcy has returned to NC Hills district following the surrender of the Black Widow, said Ajit Pandit, DRM of NF railway here at Silchar today. He added the renovation of the existing meter gauge line between Lumding and Silchar will be completed within two months to facilitate speedy running of two express trains, services of which were resumed recently.

Pandit, who was accompanied by senior officials like Rajneesh Kumar and Hiralal Sarkar, Divisional Commercial Manager, said in the Badarpur-Agartala route, halting agents will be deputed by NF Railway to avoid problems regarding issuance of travelling tickets at the smaller section where till now no staff has been posted. Responding to the demand for changing the time schedule of Agartala-bound trains from Silchar, Pandit said NF Railway authorities have been considering the matter with sympathy.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the All Barak Youth and Students’ Association met the DRM and demanded speedy renovation of meter gauge line to facilitate normal running of two express trains. The ABYSA demanded declaration of the Badarpur junction as a model junction.

Journalist Federation of Assam representatives also met Pandit and handed over a memorandum to him demanding media passes to the working journalists of Barak Valley from Silchar station itself.
