Baram Baba fair under way in Cachar

SILCHAR, Nov 2: The traditional Baram Baba fair in Cachar district was flagged off yesterday. MP Kabindra Purkayastha inaugurated the fair with a welcome speech. Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala was also present on the occasion.

Kabindra Purkayastha, while inaugurating the fair, said that the traditional Baram Baba fair could be compared to the famous Kumbha Mela. Purkayastha also promised to give Rs 2 lakh from his fund to the temple of Baram Baba.

On the other hand, Goala said that he would make it a point to talk over the issue with the Assam Chief Minister to grant Rs 20 lakh for the development of the Baram Baba temple.

Sources said the fair begins every year on the auspicious occasion of Raas Purnima in the month of Kartik. Ishwar Bhai Wadiya, KC Rathor, Mahavir Jain, Sanjoy Mishra, Subchan Goala and others were present on the occasion. THE SENTINEL
