SILCHAR, Nov 24: Eminent educationist and editor of Janokantha, a local Bengali daily Bhakti Madhab Chatterjee breathed his last today. He was 78.
Chatterjee was suffering from multiple age related diseases and died of a massive cardiac arrest at a city hospital of Srikona where he had been staying for the last seven months. Chatterjee, a famed Tagore expert, was the former principle of Cachar College. He leaves behind his wife Sabita Chatterjee.
Bhakti Madhab Chatterjee, originally hailed from West Bengal and joined as a teacher in Cachar College. Chatterjee was actively involved with the cultural movement of the Barak Valley. He was also the president of Rupam, a cultural organization as well as the president of Sammilito Samskritik Mancha, a joint platform of various cultural organizations.
Chatterjee’s last rites would be performed tomorrow morning at samshanghat. His bodily remains would be brought to Gandhibag tomorrow morning and a procession would be brought out. THE SENTINEL

Bhakti Madhab Was a man of literature. As far I know he was not so active in mass organisation, while he was in service. It was in last 18 years after his retirement he became center of attraction. He actually feel up the space vacated by the death of personalities like Premendra Nath Gosami And Debabrata Dutta. Beside cultural activities I found him as Principal in charge of Satya Ranjan College at Kalain, where I worked as lecturer from 1993 to 1998. It was his love for the land and people deterred him from going back to his birth place at Bengal.
