Purkayastha sibling clash puts BJP in discomfort

SILCHAR, Nov 7: With the newly formed district unit of BJP in Cachar, ground for ego clash between Silchar MP Kabindra Purkayastha and his brother and district vice president of BJP, Kirit Bhushan Purkayastha, seems to be getting ready.

Although Kirit Bhushan was the forerunner for the post of district president, his elder brother is hoping to see his political “disciple” Partha Sarathi Chanda, who was the former principal of GC College, on the post. On the other hand, Kirit Bhushan is reportedly eyeing for party nomination in Silchar for the 2011 Assembly Polls while Kabindra Purkayastha wanted to project his son, Kanad, for the candidature.

According to sources, the anti-Kabindra Purkayastha lobby of the district committee is now backing Kirit Bhushan for the post of president in order to avoid any chances of Kabindra Purkayastha making his son Kanad the president of the unit.

Moreover, Kirit Bhushan allegedly did not allow Kanad Purkayastha to attend a meeting held recently for selecting assistant returning officers for various posts of the district committee election. The meeting was presided over by Kirit Bhushan.

Meanwhile two more names for the post of district president were cropping up. One was Niharendra Thakur, a senior advocate with a long association with the party. Sources said he might get the support of a strong section. The second man is Gitesh Dev, practically backed by Dr Rumi Nath and his entrepreneur father Tailakya Bhushan Nath, who is reportedly eyeing an electoral berth in the next Assembly election from Silchar.
