SILCHAR, Dec 9: At least 100 shops, allegedly occupying the footpath of Badarpur Station Road and the main market area, were evicted by the district administration and police yesterday. Magistrate NK Debnath along with Circle Inspector Amjad Ali and OC Harendra Das led a CRPF team who evicted the illegal shopkeepers by using a bulldozer.
Meanwhile, the Badarpur Gaon Panchayat Forum and local Trinamool Congress demanded rehabilitation for the small-time businessmen whose shops were evicted. Badarpur Town Committee, however, assured that an alternative place had been selected for their rehabilitation. THE SENTINEL
