18th Silchar Book Fair begins

SILCHAR, Dec 14: The 18th Silchar Book Fair began today on Bipin Paul Das meeting ground which was inaugurated by poet Anurupa Biswas as chief guest by lighting the auspicious lamp and graced by Assam University vice chancellor Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, Hirendra Kumar Gupta, Bhabani Chakraborty, Hitesh Goswami and Cachar deputy commissioner Gautam Ganguly.

Around 40 book stalls from Kolkata and Barak Valley have taken part in this fair with their stocks of books on various subjects and themes to cater to the taste and temperament of the readers of diverse segments. All the speakers in identical manner spoke about the importance of developing reading habits for enriching their mental faculties as well as for enlightenment and entertainment.

The fair will continue till December 25 and it would be enlivened by regular cultural and literary programmes in order to delight book-shoppers. On this occasion two books entitled Kavya-Grantha Sreejane Ashwad written by Mridula Bhattacharjee and Jeevanchabi Khuje Rang Pencil written by Mita Das Purkayastha were released by poet Chhabi Gupta and Shyamalendu Chakraborty, editor of Janakantha.
