SILCHAR, Dec 2: In yet another incident of Highway car-lifting case, the body of one Abdul Basit (32), who was a driver of a Maruti 800 car, was found at Dhumkar in Katogorah and the vehicle he was driving was missing.
Sources said Syed Mainuddin, the owner of the stolen car, was informed about the incident by Kalain Police that a body has been found abandoned along the road and a driving license was recovered from the victim through which they identified him. Mainuddin, a resident of Kanchanpur under Algapur, later informed the family members of Basit in Badarpur and they rushed to the spot.
The body of Basit was sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem till the filing of this report. It was also reported that Basit was strangulated to death and was last seen in Badarpur on Tuesday noon. Meanwhile, the drivers came out in the streets in Badarpur to protest against the failure of the police in nabbing car-lifters who had been committing such crimes unabated. THE SENTINEL
