Land acquisition stopped in Indragarh

SILCHAR, Dec 8: Responding to the repeated appeals of Cachar Deputy Commissioner Gautam Ganguly, the Revenue Department had stopped land acquisition proceedings of the controversial Indragarh grant on November 16 last. According to the land aquisition proceeding, at least 1,000 bighas of land was supposed to be handed over to the Army. But certain allegations surfaced on the list of beneficiaries as anomalies were reported during the preparation of the jirat. Sources said Ganguly had immediately ordered Cachar additional deputy commissioner BC Nath to conduct a thorough investigation into the case and at the same time also stopped the process. In order to maintain transparency in the case, the district administration ordered another inquiry to the Cachar Zilla Parishad chief executive officer to submit a preliminary report on the alleged jirat on October 26. After the report was submitted, the DC urged the government to stop the land aquisition process and till date not a single bigha of land was handed over to the Army. THE SENTINEL
