SILCHAR, January 10: Dr. Sekhar Chakraborty has assumed the post of principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital after Dr. Sandip Swapan Dhar made his exit virtually in an unceremonious way. Dr. Dhar retired from his service on December 31, but for almost a week he had not received any letter from the Health Ministry instructing him either to continue or to hand over official charge. Dr.Dhar, however, ceased to attend his duty since January 1, resulting in some administrative difficulties. However, a source in the SMCH said, the Health Ministry had sent an official order asking Dr. Dhar to hand over charge to Dr. Chakraborty and accordingly the former did the act in the backdate. The entire handing over of charge was done in such an unceremonious way that many professors and doctors of the SMCH did not even know about the transition. THE SENTINEL
