NC Hills economic blockade begins

Silchar, March 4: Hordes of people from Joypur-Rajabajar and Harinagar-Kumacherra, the sensitive areas bordering NC Hills, took to the streets as the economic blockade for the neighbouring district began today. The agitation was staged to put pressure on the district administration of both Cachar and NC Hills district to ensure safety of people along the border.
The local people resorted to stage the economic blockade after the body of a local trader Sujit Paul was found on Monday in the dense forests of Jijung Hill in the neighbouring district. Paul was allegedly kidnapped last week by NSCN(K) militants.
Sources said the agitated people prevented transportation of goods to the markets of Lodibasti, Sankai and others in the NC Hills. The entire trade wing in this part of the hill district runs from the commodities transported from Barak Valley via Kumacherra. THE SENTINEL
