Orange National Park
Orange National Park is Assam’s famous national park which is known for its flora and fauna. It is also known as mini Kaziranga. It covers an area of about 78.81 sq kms. It was established in 1985 as a sanctuary and was declared as National park in 1999. Its area is spreads over two district of Assam (Sonitpur and Darrang) and located near the northern bank of Brahmaputra.
The area under the national park is the alluvial flood plain of Brahmaputra... The area comprises the alluvial flood plains of the Brahmaputra. The eastern and southern boundary comprises of the islands and channel of the river. The national park is surrounded by the villages from all its side. So this national park remains under constant biotic pressure. The majority part of the national park is flat plain. They enjoy thru subtropical monsoon climate. Rains occur in the month of May to September.
Best time to visit is from November to May. This park well connected by all means of transportation. If you are travelling via air than Tezpur would be the nearest airport to Orange but Guwahati is preferred as it is well connected all the major cities of the country. For rail, Tezpur or Guwahati both them are well connected to the rail transit system. For road connections National park can be approached via National highway no. 52 via Orang. It is 127 km from Guwahati.
Temperature keeps on varying according to the months. For October to March 5º to 25 º and for May to June its 20 º to 32º. The annual rainfall is around 3000mm on average basis. Visitors can explore the park via elephant safari. These safaris can only be in the morning or the evening time. National park offers accommodation to the visitors. It has two rest houses and one dormitory.
