Badaruddin Ajmal’s Silchar tour to assess situation

SILCHAR, Feb 5: AUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal today reached Silchar from Guwahati and would be on a hurricane tour around Barak Valley as a part of his campaign and public interactions.

He would address public meetings at certain specific locations and also hold conclaves with leaders and workers of the party. At the Kumbhirgram airport lounge, he spoke to the media and revealed his programme which indicated it was with election overtone.

Though the four party alliance is yet to take final decision on the nomination of Badaruddin Ajmal from Silchar LS seat also, he said, “I am firm to contest from here”.

He was also aware of the fact that CPM, one of the alliance partners, is thinking of fielding its candidate but, he made it clear AUDF has better following and sound base in Silchar Parliamentary constituency which backs up.

Badaruddin Ajmal further pointed out that the question of joining Congress is far-fetched. He did admit that Union Minister Sontosh Mohan Dev made moves in order to bring both AUDF and Congress on a common platform to fight elections jointly through alliance and seat adjustment.
He was frank to assert, “my relations with Dev are on personal level which has nothing to do with my political decision”.

Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat which during the last assembly elections supported Congress is now inclined towards AUDF.

Its general secretary Maulana Zamir Uddin Laskar was closeted with Badaruddin Ajmal at the VIP lounge for nearly half an hour, giving definite signal about the turn of support for AUDF.
To a specific question if his declaration to contest from here is dramatic, he denied and made it clear there can be no ambiguity about his decision. source: sentinel assam
