Bithika Dev : I could have sent BJP leaders to jail

.

SILCHAR, Feb 7: Out-going chairperson of Silchar Municipality Board (SMB) Bithika Dev charged BJP of ‘criminal offence’ accusing that the erstwhile BJP board had siphoned off at least Rs 52 lakh from Provident Fund dues of the 163 permanent employees of the SMB. Dev said, if she desired, she could have sent the then BJP chairman Rajendra Brahmachari to jail.

Addressing a press meet before her term as the chairperson of the SMB, Bithika Dev made a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing the latter of mass corruption with employees’ remuneration. It was reported that during the three and half year tenure of BJP, the Board’s due to the ASEB was more than Rs 2 crores. "After I took over, I first started to clear the salary of the employees and within three months I was able to do so", claiming this Dev said, the second thing she did was repayment of electricity and PHE dues in instalment.

Bithika Dev, who is also the MLA of Silchar, said she had started some projects during her tenure in the SMB which would generate a permanent and regular source of income. Although she admitted that she lacked political experience and astuteness when she started, but her sincere efforts to revive the dying Board as well as to provide the citizens the basic civic services had made her tenure unexpectedly worthy. She further added that until and unless people of the town extend their hands of cooperation, a civic body could not do wonder of its own. She said her husband, Union Minister Sontosh Mohan Dev, had time and again helped the SMB.source: sentinel assam
