SILCHAR, Feb 6: At a meeting of the district development committee on Thursday presided over by Gautam Ganguli, various ongoing implementation of schemes was reviewed. It was revealed that the improvement of Silchar-Kalain road is in progress, 8 km of which has been metalled. Earth-filling has been going on the remaining stretches of the road.

The committee, at the same time informed that the improvement of roads from Katigorah main point to Lathimara would begin in a few days. Requisite money has been allotted for the purpose under CRF. It was also pointed out that the most controversial road of the town from Capital Travels point to Holy Cross would be completed in a month. On Gumra-Sadirkhal road, improvement work has been completed on 15% of the road. Under the funding of Tourism Department, construction of stairs for Bhuban Hills pilgrimage site and the development of Arunachal Kali Bari are in progress.

The Sales Tax Department has come out with the information that against the target of Rs 64.24 crore for realization during the current financial year, Rs 51.8 crore was collected in one month alone. DTO revealed that against their target of Rs 5.57 crore for the current financial year, Rs 4.66 crore was collected. The Forest Department on its part collected Rs 3. 87 crore against the target of Rs 4.30 crore.

The deputy commissioner advised the ASEB to take steps for the improvement of power supply in tea gardens. He also laid stress on working for green revolution in the district for which he said the Agriculture Department should initiate proper measures.
