Hailakandi, Feb. 16: Mizoram and host Silchar players annexed the veterans’ events titles in the North East Tennis Meet that concluded in Silchar late last evening.
The pair of Sibashis Dutta Gupta and Ranjit Paul defeated Kiranmoy Das and Biresh Das in an all-Silchar final of the veterans’ 35-45 years category 9-4 for the title in the two-day meet organised by the Silchar Tennis Club at its indoor tennis courts.
In another veterans’ (45 years and above) final, Mizoram’s Panianga and Nabangla defeated Kalyan Dasgupta and Vivek Podder of Silchar 9-3.
In an all-Mizoram final in the men’s doubles category, the pair of John and Lalrinawama defeated Lalmasuana and Lalrunmawaria in 6-1, 6-3 sets. In the men’s singles final, Lalrinawama defeated Laldrinthuanga of Mizoram in 6-4, 6-4 sets.
Earlier in the evening, Arnab Dutta of Silchar annexed the under-16 boys’ singles title defeating Tushar Jain of Silchar 6-2.
Altogether 80 players participated in the meet representing Mizoram, Assam Rifles, Silchar and Guwahati. General manager of ONGC, Anil Bhandari, secretary of Mizoram Tennis Association Masaka, Silchar DSA president Badal Dey and the executive member of the All Assam Tennis Association, A.K. Endow, gave away the prizes.
Cachar deputy commissioner Gautam Ganguly, president of India Club Sujit Duttagupta and principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Swapan Dhar were also present at the prize distribution ceremony. source: the telegraph india
