Roy had reportedly told the Silchar police that he would take personal initiative to make the accused surrender to the police. But, Rahul Roy yesterday virtually created a tense situation by gathering not less than 7,000 Kaibartyas, the fishermen SC community people, from various parts of the Valley and wanted to proceed towards Malini Beel to address a rally there though the administration had already declared that nobody could arrange any rally in the disputed land till the magisterial enquiry into the mob violence incident was over.
It is to be noted that the FIR, lodged by Bithika Chakraborty, wife of Partha Ranjan accused 11 persons for creating violence in their house on last Tuesday morning. Out of these, police had till now arrested only four, though the slum dwellers of Malini Beel had been constantly accusing the police of atrocities. Even Rahul Roy yesterday in his speech made it clear that he would not tolerate any police excess on the fishermen community.
He was reminded by the police officer that Minister Gautom Roy had personally assured them that he would make the absconders surrender to the police. But Rahul did not pay any attention to this. A source said that Gautom Roy had expressed resentment over his son’s over –activism as Rahul had reportedly made some objectionable remarks against Sontosh Mohan Dev which would definitely vitiate the relation between Roy and Dev.
Meanwhile, the magisterial enquiry today came to an end and ADC BC Nath who was entrusted with the job, had submitted the enquiry report to the Deputy Commissioner. Nath had interrogated at least 90 persons in this regard as well as he made a visit to the spot mob violence that left Partha Ranjan and his brother seriously injured. It is to be noted that Rahul Roy yesterday brought with him some relief items which were seized by police on ground that these could not be distributed as the code of conduct was still in operation.
Today, an NGO on behalf of the Algapur MLA Rahul Roy distributed the essential commodities among the people of Malini Beel. THE SENTINEL
