BJP demands repoll in Hailakandi

Karimganj Election
GUWAHATI, May 5: Alleging mass rigging in poll booths of Hailakandi parliamentary constituency during the recently held Lok Sabha polls, the BJP today demanded repoll in the entire district. A one-member team would go to New Delhi tomorrow to meet the Chief Election Commissioner and press forth the party’s demands.

Addressing mediapersons at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati today, party candidate for Hailakandi parliamentary constituency Sudhangsu Das blamed senior officers of the administration for alleged Congress-sponsored rigging in poll booths of Hailakandi. He said, “Mass rigging took place in Hailakandi at the behest of the ruling Congress. Rigging in favour of the Congress party took place in various poll booths by Congress activists who were led by Minister Gautam Roy. I had personally complained about this to the district Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Returning Officer but to no avail.”

Das informed that a formal complaint in this regard has also been given to the Chief Election Officer.

BJP Karimganj district unit president Biswarup Bhattacharya would be going to New Delhi to meet the Chief Election Commissioner in this regard.

Demanding repoll in the entire district, Bhattacharya said, “Four CISF jawans had to be placed under suspe-nsion for casting votes in the name of other people, which implies that unfair means were indeed resorted to in the recent parlia-mentary elections.” THE SENTINEL
