Kabindra to contest from Silchar

NEW DELHI, March 13 – The BJP today managed to finalise the list of candidates for six seats in Assam, keeping Guwahati and Mangaldai seats pending. However, a formal announcement is expected tomorrow. The meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC), headed by national party president, Opposition Leader, LK Advani, joined Rajnath Singh besides other senior members.

Party sources said the meeting today finalised the list of candidates for six seats. Nowever, differences of opinion over candidates for Guwahati and Mangaldai seats remained. Sources said indications by Deka expressing his willingness to switch to Mangaldai seat complicated the selection process.

The Party had narrowed down the selection to Ashok Singal for the seat, surrendered by the sitting MP, Narayan Borkotoki.

Till the time of filing of this report, it was still tough fight for Bijoya Chakravarty, though she is reportedly ahead in the race for Guwahati seat, as she was backed by majority of the Central members.

Sources confided that CEC has zeroed down its list to K Daulagaphu (Diphu), Kamakhya Prasad Tassa (Jorhat), Nilomani Rai Pradhan (Dhubri), Rajen Gohain (Nagaon), Kabindra Purkayastha (Silchar) and Sudhansu Das (Karimganj). source: assam tribune
