BJP moves EC against Himanta Biswa Sarma

NEW DELHI/GUWAHATI, April 13: The BJP today lodged a complaint before the Election Commission of India against Asom Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the charge of violating of poll code of conduct by making the individual telephone call details of People’s Consultative Group (PCG) member Hiranya Saikia public. BJP’s central election cell convenor R Ramakrishna, party’s Asom in-charge Sudhangshu Mittal and Asom BJP spokesman Siddhartha Bhattacharjee lodged the complaint before the Commission. The BJP team also told the Commission that the State administration misused its machinery by removing BJP’s advertisement hoardings that were put in place with due permission of the Election Commission.

The party has also sought intervention of the Election Commission on the reported plan of Himanta Biswa Sarma to keep the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Amingaon near Guwahati. Earlier, EVMs were kept in Cotton College for counting. THE SENTINEL
