GUWAHATI, April 8 – NF Railway spinner Gyan Prakash ripped through the Silchar batting line up with a four-wicket haul in the final of the Elite Division Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament as the Silcher team was restricted to 199 for nine in their first innings on the second day of the four-day match. The first day’s play was washed out yesterday.
On a spin friendly Nehru Stadium track here today, opting to bat first the Silchar team made a solid start adding 53 runs for the opening wicket partnership between Mosaraf Hussain (25) and Raju Das (31). But a middle order collapse reduced them to 89 for five in 49.2 overs.
However, a late surge by the tail enders enabled them in reaching a respectable total at the end of the day. Thanks to an unbeaten 55-run last wicket partnership between skipper Prakash Bhagat (18) and Arindom Chakraborty (38).
Apart from Gyan Prakash, Mrigen Talukdar and Arlen Konwar took two wickets each while Sarupam Purkayastha was the other successful bowler with one wicket.
The Silchar middle order miserably failed to tackle the NF Railway spin attack as seven of the nine wickets fell today were the victims of the spinners.
Brief scores: Silchar 1st innings 199/9 (Raju Das 31, Mosaraf Hussain Laskar 25, Rajdeep Das 25, Sadiq Imran Choudhury 24, Arindom Chakraborty 38 n.o, Prakash Bhagat 18 n.o, Bishal Tiwary 12, Gyan Prakash 4/91, Arlen Konwar 2/22, Mrigen Talukdar 2/24, Sarupam Purkayastha 1/29). ASSAM TRIBUNE
