SILCHAR, May 15: Cachar Administration has made full proof arrangement for tomorrow’s counting of votes with the claim that there was no threat of militant attacks on the strong room at ISBT and ISTT.
However, the Army has been alerted and a dawn-to-dusk curfew has been clamped in the area bordering Bangladesh.
Addressing a press meet, Returning Officer as well as the Deputy Commissioner Gautam Ganguly and SP Prashant Kumar Bhuiya said a three-layered security at the ISBT has been arranged to prevent any attempt by miscreants.
Ganguly said, no victory procession would be allowed tomorrow and that such processions could be brought out only after the administration gives a green signal for that.
Bhuiya said, the entire Silchar town has been divided into six sectors from the security point of view and each sector would be under one sector officer.
Police had identified 91 trouble spots in the district and special vigil would be maintained there.
Army has also been alerted, admitting this, Bhuiya said they would not be required as the police has arranged for sufficient security.
Ganguly on the other hand said counting would start from 8 am and it would take seven to eight hours to wind up the entire counting process.
He said, Election Commission had asked to depute counting micro observers who would only be answerable to the Central Observers. THE SENTINEL
