SILCHAR, May 15: South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed today claimed a group close to State’s Excise Minister Gautam Roy had hatched a conspiracy against him to malign his character. Ahmed, an associate MLA of the ruling party, however made it clear that he did not believe that Roy was personally involved in the conspiracy against him.
Ahmed’s name reportedly figured in the call chart of the mobile of Tamizuddin Laskar, a cop-turned-dacoit, who was recently arrested by Silchar police from a den at Ladrymbai in Meghalaya.
Tamiz, in his confession to the police, reportedly admitted that Ahmed had hired him for a hefty amount to eliminate his one-time political mentor Muktadir Choudhury, a former Minister in the erstwhile Saikia government.
Earlier, Silchar police nabbed two cadres of National Tiger Force, a small time gang of dacoits and they had also confessed that Ahmed took help of Tamiz to hire two PULF militants for killing his political rivals.
Siddeque Ahmed today told mediapersons here in Silchar that he was a victim of political conspiracy. He claimed that in South Karimganj, he had garnered the support of all the communities as evident from the fact that he had won the seat twice in a row. He said, Muktadir Chowdhury had died his ‘political death’ much before and nobody needs to hire a contract killer to eliminate a ‘politically dead’ opponent.
Ahmed further said that he also had information that the NTF cadres were paid hefty amounts by his conspirators to involve his name in the contract killing case. Significantly, Ahmed maintained that he believed Roy was not involved in the conspiracy.
It is to be noted that Roy once backed Ahmed to project him against Muktadir, a close man of Sontosh Mohan Dev. THE SENTINEL
