SILCHAR, May 7: Excise Minister Gautom Roy told the slum dwellers of Malini Beel area not to allow leasers to play dirty politics with their plight. In an oblique reference to his MLA son Rahul Roy, the minister who met the slum dwellers, cautioned that law would take its own course and appealed to the accused to surrender to the police immediately.
It is to be noted that, slum dwellers of Malini Beel made a mob attack on the residence of Partha Ranjan and his brother Sujoy who were later admitted in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries. They are currently recuperating in their house at Ramkrishna lane of Tarapur area, adjacent to Malini Beel.
Meanwhile, Algapur MLA Rahul Roy virtually made a drama by trying to enter into the disputed land with thousands of Kaibartya, an SC fisherman community dwelling in Malini Beel for years. Rahul was stopped by police as the district administration had banned any kind of public assembly in the disputed area.
However, the Algapur MLA was later allowed to meet the slum dwellers whom he assured with a variety of assistance. Simultaneously, he made oblique attacks on the local Congress leaders, much to the dissatisfaction his father.
Gautom Roy, who visited the slum area yesterday, did not spare much time there but assured that if Partha Ranjan was guilty, he would be definitely booked. But in no case, the persons who were accused of attacking the house of Partha Ranjan would be spared at any cost. He asked them to surrender to the police immediately. THE SENTINEL
