LICI donates Rs 5 lakh for Cancer Hospital blood bank

SILCHAR, May 13: Life Insurance Corporation of India’s Silchar Division Senior Divisional Manager RC Khora handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre director Dr Ravi Kanan recently as the first instalment of financial assistance towards construction of a blood bank block in the hospital.

The LICI Golden Jubilee Foundation sanctioned a total grant of Rs 17,000 to the blood bank to be named after LIC of India.

Khora was accompanied by (P& IR) manager BK Gupta and (B&AC) manager J Roy of the same division in the handing over ceremony organized in the Colbat building of the hospital. Governing Body of Cachar Cancer Hospital Society member Prof Devaprasad Roy welcomed the members and anchored the programme.

Gupta who was very much instrumental in co-ordinating between the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society and the LICI Golden Jubilee Foundation, deliberated on the various social schemes of LICI Golden Jubilee Foundation and deliberated on the various social scheme that LICI had contributed in this region. It had encouraged meritorious students through some its programmes, he revealed.

The construction of LICI blood bank unit will cater to the needs of large number of people coming for treatment from different parts of Northeast India and others and will definitely strengthen LIC’s cordial relationship with public.

KC Khora who had replaced BC Bharali as the Senior Divisional Manager of the LICI Silchar division very recently addressed the meeting and told that LICI was the biggest financial institution devoted to the services of the society.

Dr Ravi Kanan, a renowned cancer specialist and director of the hospital, thanked the LICI for its generosity for coming forward to meet a genuine need of poor and suffering patients.
He narrated how cancer patients had to face immense problems for want of a blood bank. Jyotindra Chandra Dutta, chairman and Dr Chinmoy Choudhury general secretary of the hospital society also thanked the LICI authorities for their help and assured that the grant will be meaningfully utilized in the interest of the people.

Governing body of the society member Prof Dilip Kumar Dey recalled that both the LICI and its employees’ association had been very kind to the cancer hospital project all through. The LICI Golden Jubilee Foundation’s financial assistance will be a landmark in the history of development of the Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Joint secretary of the society Kalyan Chakraborty, Bijoy Kr Das, Mihir Kar Purkayastha, Dr Gopal Dutta, Dr Rajendra Kr Baruah, Seetha Lakshnmi Kannan, Dr Moloy Chakraborty, GB members, many specialists, doctors, and well-wishers along with mediapersons were present in the meeting. THE SENTINEL
