Rs 2 crore collected as tax from Cachar in July

SILCHAR, Aug 8: With a view to implementing Central schemes in Cachar district, the Cachar Agriculture (Technical) Department has decided to distribute 40 tractors in the district. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Development Committee at Silchar on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the Sale Tax Department said it collected an amount of Rs 1.13 crore as tax in July. It was also revealed by the Department to the audience gathered in the meeting that Rs 78.9917 lakh was collected by the Transport and Forest Departments. An amount of Rs 7.46 lakh was also collected as registration fees from Cachar in July. THE SENTINEL
Narjamal inspects incomplete irrigation projects

SILCHAR, Aug 8: “Two major irrigation projects at Jhapirbund Part I and Part II will be completed by March, 2010,” said State Irrigation Minister Narjamal Sarkar while he was on an on-the-spot survey to these incomplete projects in Udharbond.
Sources said the cost of these two projects were Rs 1.98 crore and Rs 1.96 crore. The projects were started in December 15, 2008. Later talking to reporters, Sarkar said that 262 hectares of land would come under irrigation after the completion of these two projects. He further said that the Irrigation Department had undertaken 42 new projects in Cachar, 12 in Karimganj and 10 in Hailakandi districts. THE SENTINEL
