BADARPUR, Aug 12 – Massive plans have been formulated by the DC of Karimganj, Dr M Angamuthu, to give a ‘coat of beauty’ to Badarpur town. The DC expressed the need for a beautification drive while addressing a high-level citizens’ meet at the Badarpur circle office recently, in presence of the high officials of Karimganj district administration and others.
The DC expressed the view that the town of Badarpur was in a very bad shape as he had personally inspected several areas in Badarpur town, including Badarpur bazar and Badarpur railway areas.
He found the roads are worn out, absence of proper footpaths and bad drainage system. The Badarpur market is littered with dirt and stench.
He felt that in the wake of its ever increasing population and deteriorating condition, there is the need for forming a Municipality Board at Badarpur, extending the number of its wards from 4 to 12. A request would be sent to the Assam government in this regard very soon, he added.
The DC assured the citizens that a fund of Rs 3 crore had been granted by the government, to undertake the upgradation of the Badarpur town. Amenities like reconstructing the worn-out roads of the town and the bazar, proper street lighting, construction of modern drains-cum-footpaths etc are planned.
In the same way, for expediting the all round development of the Karimganj town, the Deputy Commissioner has made all sorts of necessary arrangements for giving the denizens a respite from the problems as per decisions and resolutions taken in another citizens’ meet held recently at the DC’s Conference Hall.
He sought help and co-operation from all in the cleaning operation. Dr Angamuthu also said that a city bus service would be started shortly in the town and a bus terminus would be built. Water-logging would be solved by constructing mini-drains alongside the national highway and various roads of the town. Dustbins and street light would also be set up in the town to beautify the town as well. THE SENTINEL
