Karimganj PHE division executes 33 piped water supply schemes in 2008-09

KARIMGANJ, Aug 2 – The Karimganj Public Health Engineering Division has set a record in implementing 33 piped water supply schemes during 2008-09. Of this, 30 schemes had been executed under ARP (Slipped Back Habitation) and three schemes executed under Quality Affected Scheme (sub-mission).

It is gathered from the PHE division that 223 ring wells were completed during the last financial year. A total of 185 habitations were covered with the help of 30 piped water supply schemes. Total population which benefitted during the last financial year stands at 1,09,836. Put of this, SC and ST people stand at 3,987 and 1,619 respectively. As many as 10 habitations were covered by 3 schemes, executed under Quality Affected Scheme (sub-mission). Nearly 6,723 villagers have received drinking water from these scheme. Out of this, 209 villagers belong to SC community.

Total habitations where the problem of arsenic and fluoride has been taken care of is seven and 9 arsenic and fluoride affcted habitations have been covered by constructing 3 schemes and 8 ring wells respectively. Altogether 9,931 arsenic and fluoride affected villagers are now getting arsenic and fluoride free drinking water. Of these, 648 and 18 are SC and ST people respectively.

Execution of the construction works for 28 piped water supply schemes have been going on in full swing under ARP (Slipped Back Habitation) during the current financial year. Altogether 1,03,023 people will be benefitted. Of this SC people total 7,219 and ST people stand at 1,208 respectively, whereas 223 habitations are to be covered during 2009-10. As many as 10 arsenic and fluoride affected villages covering 26,312 villagers will be provided pure drinking water by the Karimganj PHE division.

Under Assam Bikash Yojana for ATC gardens, 3 schemes have been executed now under construction. A total of 6,087 people, including 832 SC people belonging to 19 villages will get drinking water. Three schemes are also under construction under Assam Bikash Yojana for interior village. A total of 12,641 villagers, including 2,734 SC people of 18 villages, will be benefitted. ASSAM TRIBUNE
