Assam University organizes Comm Fest 09

SILCHAR, Sept 16: The two-day Comm Fest 09, an audiovisual and cultural mega event organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Assam University, concluded here recently. The Dean of School of Information Sciences and Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Prof Gyan Prakash Pandey, in his welcome address said the objective of such an event “is to develop creativity, conviction and confidence among students, besides spreading the spirit of brotherhood and providing new avenues for cultural assimilation.”

Vice-Chancellor Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee who inaugurated the Fest described Mass Communication as a professional department which he pointed out “has the added responsibility of not only making all aware of things happening around and likely to happen, but also to foster the sense of belonging to society”. Newly elected chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board Sushmita Dev expressed her pleasure to be associated with the mega event and she wished to be a part of it for years to come. She was impressed to see the latest publication of the department Impression, a quarterly journal which brought into focus certain problems faced by the citizens of the town. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma said this Fest provided a platform to the students to develop and exhibit their latent talent and diverse personality.

Significant attractions of this mega event were quiz contests, debate competition, face-off, ad-making contest, the big idea, slogan writing competition, mobile still photography, frame, film review contest. Colourful cultural programme on the occasion enthralled the packed auditorium of Bipin Chandra Paul Hall. Another extravagant event was the “Ground Zero-The Big Fight”. The topic for discussion was “Are we being truly represented by our elected representatives” in which luminaries from various fields participated.

The Fest concluded with the release of Souvenir and the prize distribution ceremony. The mega event was sponsored by Café-de-Net, Senco-Gold, Algol Mobile Centre, CPWD, MGCCL, Rose Kandy TE, Topcem, Podders and Podders, Sree Gautam Construction Company Limited. THE SENTINEL
