Silchar road repair rapidly in progress

SILCHAR, Dec 6: Road repair and their improvement in Silchar has been rapidly in progress and 20 of them has been completed till date, said PWD (R) division members at a review meeting of the district development committee held at the Cachar Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall recently. The members further pointed out that the road from Kathal road point to medical college would be completed within the next seven days.

It was further pointed out by the PWD (R) division that five roads under PMGSY have been completed during this year and 20 more under the scheme would be ready by December end. The NH wing of the department shared the information that for the double laning of the Silchar-Haflong road up to Balacherra, necessary funds from the Centre has been sanctioned and released and the road is scheduled to be completed within the next 16 months as directed. It was further disclosed that the work for the improvement of the road from Capital Travels to Holy Cross has already begun.

While reviewing the progress of improvement on national highways 53 and 54, it was pointed out that the filling of potholes was near completion. The Agriculture Department revealed that till date, 155 quintals of mustard seeds and 618 quintals of pea-seeds have been distributed. Process for the distribution of 411 quintals of paddy seeds would begin soon.

In the review meeting, discussion on the distribution of loans among 3,712 Kissan credit card holders was also held. Rs 3.88 crore has been distributed as loans among the card holders. The district Transport Department has till now realized Rs 4.33 crore revenue against a target of Rs 6.17 crore fixed for this financial year. The Sales Tax Department has also collected Rs 55.16 crore against the target of 83.36 crore stipulated for this financial year, it was revealed in the meeting. It's a welcome news. But those sanctioned under the PMGSY almost 2 months ago r still to be taken up. Example road from ferry ghat to Dilkhoosh hospital a length of approx 2.5 kms is still to be taken up. The road can be only repaired in the cold months and any delay will hamper progress and the quality of construction of road will be inferior.

State minister Dinesh Prasad Goala doesn't want any development in Silchar town. He along with CM Tarun Gogoi and Gautam Roy virtually stalled all projects related to Silchar. Still people are voting for Congress Party.
