Jatinga Bird Mystery
Birds are one of the most beautiful creations of god. Can they commit suicide..? Confused…? Many researchers, for years, are bewildered by the mystery which happens in Jatinga every year. Still it remains a mystery that whether they are killed or it’s a natural death or they also commit suicide.
Jatinga, a place which will spellbind you with its natural beauty is located in a spur of half long ridge of North Cachar hills in the district of Assam. A mysterious place where every year lots of migratory birds comes and dies. No one knows the reason of their dying. Apart from its natural beauty, this unsolved mystery makes this place a hot destination for the bird lovers.
This mysterious phenomenon of birds dying occurs in monsoon season. Jatinga is obscured by the mist and the fog during this season. The mysterious incident occurs only when air is foggy, misty and cloudy. If there are few drops of rain it acts as an added advantage. from the studies it has been deciphered that evening time of 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm is most suitable for this mysterious phenomena/ mostly it take place in the month of September to November
The winds blow, during the foggy moonless night, from north to south. The birds become inactive and lethargic. The birds do not fly and behave as if they are half dead. This may happens because the birds are shocked with the temperature conditions present in Jatinga. Some of the rare species are also found among the hundred of species which are found dead there. Some of them are Tiger Bittern, Kingfishers, Pond Heron, Little Egret, Black Bittern etc. Various studies have shown that there is a relation between the breeding of birds and these deaths.
Several ornithologists have tried to study this mystic phenomena but nobody has ever came up with any kind of hypothesis which could explain this mystery. Some says that villagers in the jatinga puts trap for these birds attracting them the light source. But similar kind of incident has occurred in Philippines under the same weather conditions (windy, foggy and moonless night). This phenomenon has no answer till yet but it attracts ornithologist from vivid regions.
