Santosh Mohan Dev is the veteran Indian who has had hid firm hands in the political field. Born in Silchar, Assam on the 1st April 1934, Santosh Mohan Dev is the political leader and also one of the members of the Indian National Congress. Santosh Mohan Dev was first time elected in the Parliament in the year 1980. Including this, he has had seven terms as the Member of Parliament in the office.

Santosh Mohan Dev has represented the state of Assam in Silchar five times out of the seven terms that he has spent being the Member of Parliament. The remaining two times, he was elected from the state of Tripura.

He has been honored with various awards and other achievements during his political career. Santosh Mohan Dev was made the Union Cabinet’s Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprise from 2005 till 2009. There are several other achievements by Santosh Mohan Dev that can be acknowledged. He was influential to set up a national university in the state of Assam (Silchar). Other than this, he has also played a major role in the freight equalization scheme during the early 1990s. It was meant for the asymmetrical charges of rail freight in the various states allover India thus he was the one to make it more competitive.

He is the third generation of his family to be called as the Congressman. Santosh Mohan Dev’s father was Independent India’s first legislators. Not only his father has a political career but his grand father was also one of the active members at the time of the struggle by the Indians for freedom. Besides Santosh Mohan Dev’s grand father was also the member of the first ever constituted Silchar Municipal Council in the year 1913. 

Other than the political field, Mr. Santosh Mohan Dev is also a professional and certified Football Referee. Not only football, he also had won the prizes for the All Assam Lawn Tennis Championship. This multi talented person is also fond of reading and gets its inspiration from the well known Bengali writers that can include Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra.
